Paris Rare Book Fair Opens

The Salon du Livre Rare & des Arts Graphiques opens today in Paris and runs through June 15.
Organised by the French antiquarian booksellers association the Syndicat National de la Librairie Ancienne et Moderne, there are more than 100 international exhibitors at the Carreau du Temple. Among them is Librairie Camille Sourget, Shapero Rare Books, and Bernard Quaritch which will be offering a first edition of the Vergier d’Honneur, and a manuscript of medical recipes compiled by Belgian nuns.
This year's Guest of Honour is the Alekos Fassianos Museum in Athens which is dedicated to the writer and painter Alekos Fassianos. A wide range of his original editions, letters, photographs, and documents will be on show. There is also an exhibition space devoted to the bouquinistes whose secondhand book stalls line the the quais of the Seine.
To encourage younger book collectors, the Salon's Discovery Stand returns which offers a selection of rare books at competitive prices, while the Prix du Jeune Bibliophile (Young Bibliophile Prize) will also be awarded for the second year. This competition is open to any collector aged under 30 for a collection of any subject. Last year's prize was won by Pierre Florac for his collection Poetic Production of the Parisian Romantic Movement (1820–1840).
